I started going to yoga classes at the age of fifteen and have been practicing yoga since then. I found a stillness and a sense of ease from the first class that I ever attended. Although I was a student of yoga I didn’t start teacher training until 1999 when I was very privileged to train with the late Greta Bennett.
I started teaching around 2001, at first a few general classes a week. I then started teaching a class for the MS Society in 2003 which I am still teaching twenty one years later! During this time I started teaching one to one’s for the MS Society going into peoples homes who were unable to attend the group. This was so rewarding and again I still do this now.
In 2012 I did another teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga where I earned a full teaching diploma. I have always tried to be inclusive of who turns up at my class and through years of experience I think I can say I have taught a huge variety of people, some healthy and many with health conditions. I became interested in back problems and how yoga can help , so in 2013 I trained as a Healthy lower back teacher. This training was funded by The University of York and Arthritis Research UK. This is a 12 week course. I have run many of these 12 week courses. The training has been really helpful also to integrate into my own classes.
I am interested in teaching all ages and stages and so in 2018 I trained to be a Birthlight Baby Yoga teacher. I did two training courses with them for different ages and stages of babies. I practiced baby yoga with my own children and knew how helpful this can be to parents of young babies and of course for the wellbeing of the babies themselves.
Also in 2018 I applied for a job as Yoga teacher at Sara Lee Trust, which is a local charity for people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. At first I just taught one class a week. However this soon started to grow. In 2020 I taught all my classes on zoom including my charity classes. Although this was a strange and often terrible time I do think the yoga community that I was helping to build was being supported by the yoga classes and videos.
My work at Sara Lee Trust has continued to grow, and I can happily say I now teach six or more classes a week. Most of these classes are at The Therapy centre in Sidley and also I still do zoom for those who can not come out.
I continue to have an online membership with on demand videos. I also teach classes in my local area of Battle, Whatlington and Bexhill. My classes vary in the pace and ability so that I can cater for most people whatever the situation. I also teach on a one to one yoga and I am very lucky to have a small studio at home where I can teach one to one and two to one as well as online. More details in the different sections of this website.
I also have a rescue Corgi dog and 3 crazy cats, as well as 6 Children and 4 Grandchildren and will be celebrating our 40 wedding anniversary this year!
